Follow the Crystal Brick Road

It has finally happened. I have found an accessible CEU that is NCBTMB approved to become certified in crystal therapy. It's both a relief and a frustration considering the cost involved and the openness required.

I've never been one to force myself into energy work. In order to work intuitively one has to turn off his brain and FEEL with educated hands while juggling the knowledge of anatomy required to target the right areas. While doing so in traditional massage therapy is not usually difficult with a client that is mutually comfortable with me, using crystals as tools and incorporating them into a treatment will be an additional distraction until I get the handle of it.

On the plus side, though, the study required to become fluid in crystal work will prepare me for teaching my girls as they progress. Munchkin 2 already has a good deal of head knowledge, and she has done a great deal of exploring with guidance from the books she has (thank you, Google, for your assisted recommendations). She is so cute with her little satchel that she takes to school every day! Her memory and familiarity with crystal use is most likely beyond my own, so a CEU will help immensely.

How does one get started in adding crystal work into their sessions as a beginner? I am a VERY shy person when it comes to using things in my practice that I have previous exposure to rejection from. To top it all, so few scientific tests are readily available for study PROVING that using frequency from crystals is effective and expedient.

The biggest challenge will, in fact, be energy clearing. It is easy to make recommendations to a client for grounding and letting shit go... but what about all the stuff in the back of the mind that constantly impacts our perception and our own frequency? How do you do a cleanse and release?

In the course of my work as a massage therapist, working with/through other people's energy is par for the course, and usually it has not been difficult. You let them set the pace. One of the best tricks for setting the stage for both therapist AND patient, however, is essential oils. My go to when I anticipate a high-energy client is a combination of clove and bergamot with a little lemon and pepper. Think the seasonings used in a really nice loaf of bread served with wine, or even a root beer with a seasoned lamb roast. Yummy, right? As a foody, I often mix my blends based on what the client will need AND what is used harmoniously in foods. Barring few exceptions it has worked like a charm.

One such client, an oncology patient who always fidgets and runs pretty high, is able to focus, then, with sodalite and a weighted blanket. Other clients who give off so much energy that I sometimes get stuck, require a little Chakra bowl work before and after session and then a serious self-smudge afterwards. Frankly, clients like that are usually met at the door with sage and rosemary with lemon for some nerve manipulation and serious detox. I love all clients equally, but working with a client like that drives me to a new-found favorite crystal called black tourmaline. I need more of that around the office.

Some of the crystals I have that I have yet to work consistently with are rose quartz, citrine, chrysocolla, and shungite. My husband tells me I spend too much time on the phone, so the latter will be important.

There is so much to experiment with! and practice will expand with it, now doubt. However, in the back of my head will always rest the voices of my parents warning against things like pantheism, witchcraft, and failing to guard ones self. I look forward to future notes on the subject, because there IS a scientific reason for crystal work to be viable as a companion practice to lymphatics and massage therapy. Bring it on!

Yes, my mind's ear is hearing the old song by Lovin' Spoonful when I write this. It's been an adventure. We have had our first overnight...
