Pre-/Post- Op Diet
While A Spring Odyssey loves to share research, we stipulate that all recommendations should be checked with your doctor before enacting, and anything "new" to your diet should be gradually introduced. Those who are vegan should consult a nutritionist on how they can best alter their diet. Elise Schreiner (me) is not a licensed nutritionist but will share proven information with proper bibliography.

Food & Drink
As a general rule, one's diet pre and post op should be geared toward fighting infection; optimizing healing; and decreasing swelling. Proper hydration varies with the person and their individual medications but usually consists of 8 glasses of clear fluids a day MINIMUM. (See Eating After Surgery or Injury: Calorie Requirements | HSS) Diet should consist of foods rich in protein such as albumin that will help the body both repair and clean itself. (see Postoperative fluid management - PMC (nih.gov)
Avoid foods high in spice, sugar, or sodium and chew your food well.
